Pull start sport - it was great to see the penny drop for William Miller after a couple of years of being a hack , it seems that he now understands what it takes to go fast, and it's not just a matter of just holding the throttle flat out...well done 'Wills !
"Our Man" Cordie McKendrie is slowly but surely snapping at his heels, every Vortec round he is faster and faster and it's only a matter of time before he too "gets it"...I can't wait to see him at the final round.
Once again Colin White demonstrated that he is the thinker, whilst never challenging for fastest lap honours, he seems to always be circulating whilst others are picking up pieces of their cars off the track -the old addage , to finish first you have to first finish must be tatooed inside his eyelids !
Pull start pro - although this class is currently a shadow of what it once was (many have taken the next step to the touring class), there were some great performances in qualilfying by both Leigh Wallace and Tim Forster, actually all drivers had the capacity to circulate at about the same pace, however in the final it ws all Andrew Sensche and Leigh Wallace , they were the only 2 drivers that were able to break into the incredibly fast 16XX sec lap times....unheard of on this track just 1 week earlier. Seemingly there is life still left in the Kyosho FW05 !
Chris McKendrie must have been pumped up after seeing Junior's drive, he drove well in the finial and finished a very creditable 3rd.
Touring - whilst Adam Bailey and Gavin Gray have been at each other's throats at the last 2 Vortec rounds, Paul Borthwick has been under performing , but not today.
Paul reeled off a polished "display" of consistant driving, setting the fastest time in all qualifying rounds, then leading every lap of the final and easily taking the win , showing the others the quick way around today's supper grippy SERCCC track...Pro touring for Rd#4 at Lilydale?
Adam Bailey got the upper hand against Gavin Gray who DNF'd the final - Gavin was super quick and the only driver in this field to post a sub 16 sec lap, however he must find some consistency as his laptimes are very "wayward" ....( VRC is the answer...)
The oldest man in RC racing, Trevor Waye got it together in the final and brought it home for third place - in the after race press conference he stated "f--k me Nora!, those 42's were no good..." - strangely, he did his fastest times in the final on 42's.......a bit of early dementia? :0)
Pro Touring - encouraging to see in my opinion one of Australia's fastest drivers, Jesse Davis competing at Vortec level again .
- what was not so encouraging for us was seeing how fast he was today!
Jesse and his factory Novarossi powered RRR absolutely pulverised the track record, which stood at 15.9s and was set by Ash Seward earlier in the year - Jesse laid down an incredible 14.6s lap and seemed to be able to circulate close to this pace quite easily...amazing.
Ash Seward , the best of the rest strung together a clean run and managed to TQ, Jesse ending up qualifying 2nd after running out of fuel twice whilst easily on target for TQ.
Third position Brendan Sola was consistant in the heats, Leigh Cleine also driving well , qualified in 4th position.
The final was the Jesse Davis show - leading from the start, he was never challenged and ended up a 3 lap victor over Brendan Sola, who had a terrific tussle with his old man (no team orders here!).. Luis finished third after losing a couple of laps by running out of fuel between stops.
Ash Seward had an unfortunate DNF,which was a pity as he was not too far off Jesse's pace.
A special mention must go to Andrew Sensche , whilst no doubt a little overwhelmed by the pace of the Pro Touring guys still drove extremely well.
Damien was a very busy man all weekend, however in the true spirit of VORTEC competition he was not too busy to help out with a first timer, in this case it was Cameron Bramley ( #1 driver - team pear shape!)
Damo, thank you, Cameron, well done !
